Nissan UCI World Cup #1 - Pietermaritzburg, South Africa

The first round of the Nissan UCI Mountain Bike World Cup took place in the sleepy hollow of Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, the home to Morewood Bikes. It was a first of great things to come for Mountain Biking in South Africa and Morewood made themselves well known at the event with one of the best pits on the scene as well as playing host to the afterparty which was held up at CrossWays Pub on the Sunday evening.

Barons Volksway Supports Kenda/Morewood

Barons Volksway in Pietermaritzburg were quick to step up and support the Kenda/Morewood team during their World Cup trip to South Africa. One phone call to Gareth Britz from Barons VW, and he managed to organise us a VW 1.9 TDI Touran which was more than capable of hauling the five man team and their kit to and from the track everyday. Besides being whacked by a speeding camera, we all really enjoyed driving the vehicle and had to play rock, paper, scissors before each trip to see who got to drive.

SA Nationals Round 4 - PMB

The fourth leg of the South African DH Nationals was held in Pietermaritzburg the weekend before the World Cup. This saw a lot of international riders entering the event to gain practise and course time.

Conditions were dry and the track was well loose, with a steep section to begin with, leading into a long peddling section in the middle and finishing on the 4x track at the bottom.
