Pro bike: Mitch Delfs
We recently stopped in and caught up with young Perth gun, Mitch Delfs, and got the low down on his new wheels. This is Mitch’s second season with the team, but it was only this year that the team under went some massive sponsor (and thus) name changes. This year also saw Mitch paired with a new team mate in the form of Nathan Rennie. So how has the season and settling in with the new bike gone so far for Mitch? We’ll find out….
Okay Mitch, First up tell us about how your deal came about with Morewood?
Well its pretty much the same team as last year, but with a few new sponsors and just after talking with the Morewood guys, Richard and Patrick, I was super keen to be using their bikes. They’re a cool group of people and the bike is rad.
What did you think when you first heard you and Rennie were going to be team mates?
When I first heard about it I was stoked. Rennie is a pinned rider and I know it always makes you better riding with someone faster and he always has good stories, so I knew it was going to be a fun year.
How’s it been traveling and hanging out with the big dog so far this season?
It’s been sweet. We already have heeps of stories and we’re only half way through the season. It just makes everything easy as well when everybody is super chilled like Rennie who knows how to have fun.
Let’s talk about your bike. Back when you did your first ride on the Morewood?
I first rode the Morewood back at Aus Champs and Mt Buler and it felt sweet straight away. The low-leverage advantage system on these bikes works so good, it just turns a DH track into a foot path.
How much different is it to the ‘Tomac’ you were rolling on last season?
It’s a totally different bike ay. Just the way it works is so good compared to other bikes. Morewood have definitely got a good package for their bikes. I just love the smoothness it makes ya feel when ya ride it, it’s sick!
You guys are on BOS Suspension, Pretty damn trick stuff, eh. How’s it been working with them and getting used to their products?
Getting used to the product didn’t take long at all because it works that bloody good. Having Oliver Bossard the man himself tuning your forks after every run at test sessions is amazing. I have never felt a better fork in my life and the thing about BOS is that it can always be better. They are always improving. BOS is the shit!
Can you tell us about your travel set up?
We’re both pretty chilled guys I suppose so it makes it easy traveling, that’s for sure. I’m still pretty new to all this World Cup stuff but he has been doing it a while and he is still just frothing on doing fun stuff like go-karting, flow riders, etc, which is cool.
Is this the bike you’ll be on for Stromlo?
At the moment it will be but Morewood and BOS are always thinking of cool stuff to use, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they have something sneaky up their sleeve!
We’ve always known you as a ‘flats’ rider. Have you ever raced clipped in?
Nah always been a flats guy. Those clips look way to dangerous.
What about when you ride XC, do you use clips then?
Na nah, big dog Burgtec pedals (flats), are so sweet for XC!
To finish things off, can you give us a run down of your sponsors and the crew that are taking care of you this year?
Globe for the sweet shoes and Kenda, Morewood, Bos Suspension, Troy Lee Designs, Five Ten, Formula Brakes, Mavic Wheels, Control Tech, Raceface and of course SRAM
Cheers and good luck with the rest of your season!
Cheers [R]evo and I hope to smash it up for all you guys back home yewwwwww!
